There are very few people with valid scientific credentials that disagree that climate change is human- caused. There is overwhelming concensus that it is. There are currently 150 leaders of the worlds nations taking part in a conference in Paris right now, attempting to work on resolutions to this very problem.

Based on your websites, I see you as a learned and knowledgeable person, and I feel I can trust that what you say above is accurate. I’m simply suggesting that the youth are not mature, wise or learned enough to be “suing the government” regarding global warming. Again I ask: Will they sue businesses and the scientific community? What is the purpose of the suit?

Why is this the wrong lesson for them to be learning? Don't they have a right to avail themselves of the same laws and procedures that adults can use?

Do you think this is something that adults should do . . . sue the government regarding global warming? Shouldn’t we all be somewhere trying to workout solutions instead of playing the blame game? It is the act of suing that I see as a farce and an attention-getter.  I do not see suing the government as a wise and well thought-out, mature adult plan. I accept the seriousness of the problem of global warming. And I trust we have enough wisdom in this country to do something about it . . . to do as you say learned men are doing . . . working together to address and fix the problem. And this includes our government. And I suspect that there is much everyone can do as individuals to improve the atmosphere. I don’t claim to know how much of the problem is caused by human behavior, but I can see how our behavior has ruined much of the planet. The problem is not the issue as much as how they have been advised to deal with it. Teaching them that “suing” is the answer is the wrong lesson, IMHO.

How do you kniw that each of these students aren't learning everything the can about climate change? How do you know that they aren't working in other ways too, to lessen the effects of climate change?

I don’t know, but their ages suggest to me that they can only know so much and do so much, and “suing” is not the answer to the problem from my perspective. What do they hope to gain from the government? Money? A commitment? A legal decision from lawyers to force the government to do . . . what? What does winning look like in this case? To request a hearing makes more sense than suing! To sue is a farce with someone trying to make a name for themselves at the expense of our government and these young people! This practice will divide this country and destroy us as a nation.

If the courts find their suit is without merit, it will be dismissed, or they'll lose. But what if they win? What if they not only win, but are able to force the government and the country to take the actions they already should have taken?

The courts are already going too far; they are to interpret laws, not make them or force them; and suing the government is another outrageous act that feeds division in our nation, IMHO. Our government officials are not criminals who have broken the law and should not be treated as criminals by the courts of the United States and especially not on this issue. We just don’t see eye to eye on this one at all.

WHAT IF THEY'RE RIGHT?

If they are right about the issues, I believe they are still wrong to sue their government. Force is not the answer.

This a good example of the tale of the Emperors' new clothes, once convinced of a premise, it is sometimes very difficult if not impossible to amend a belief set.

I've never read the story of the Emperor's new clothes, but I guess we are all pretty opinionated on some topics. We have to be true to what we believe is truth. We can’t change just because of the opinions of others! In situations like this, I think we are all rather limited when it comes to actual facts. I just know that I think suing the government is foolish and wrong.

You have to be kidding, never heard the kiddie story? A vain King wanted some impressive clothes, some really clever tailors promised him they could make him fantastic regalia. They worked and worked spent a lot of the King's treasure, when he demanded evidence of progress rhey 'dressed' him in his new clothes exclaiming how grand he looked. The vain King could not SEE anything but went along so as to appear sophisticated and grand, he even went back promenade to show off, of course his subjects, fearing the King, applauded the new clothes, except for a small boy who piped,"but he has no clothes" whereupon, the King was much embarrassed.

Moral of the story is open your eyes and not be swayed so easily.
