What a pile of unmitigated horse droppings, all we need now is the government diverting funds to silliness defense instead of potentially actually DOING some thing with the money.  How much are the lawyers getting?

Other than making speeches and getting attention, what are these children doing to make the planet a better place?  Are they using less fuel?  Causing less energy to be spent on things that don't really matter?  Have they reduced any of their activities that create pollution?  How many trees have they planted?

I don't know. You'd have to read the article, and any associated ones to find that out.

Unfortunately, we are teaching them that to fight (in this manner) is how to make positive contributions to the future. Sue! They can't possible have the knowledge or the wisdom required to even be involved in such decision making about global warming. And yes, there is a cheaper way for "their humble and immature opinions" to be heard.

Are we teaching them to want to be seen and heard (make the news) over really learning as much as they can about an issue (scientifically) and to patiently mature into a learned, valid decision! The fact that they appear to be from a number of different ethnic groups is no mistake. Like a Hollywood production these days, it's more for show than substance, IMHO.  The work of some clever and powerful adults!

Of course they can. They're young, not stupid.

They are not stupid, but they are not wise enough in years or learned enough in ecology or meteorology to know enough to sue anyone as responsible.  The fact that it is happening is obvious. All these young people know about global warming is what they have been taught, and I doubt they’ve been educated in every aspect of global warming. I also doubt if they have had hands-on scientific experience in the scientific method as to the cause and what is normal global warming or what is actually caused by human behavior. Those with years of training can’t agree on this!  Also, if they are so smart, they should be somewhere in a lab developing methods for improving conditions instead of suing the government. It is the wrong lesson for the gifted! Are they planning to sue the business communities and the scientific communities as well? Aren’t we all responsible? To sue the government is ludicrous, a waste of time and a farce.  It is more showbiz on a serious problem and it is teaching the youth “to fight” . . . fight their own Government, fight everyone as enemy . . . instead of teaching them how to search for and work for solutions--together. Of course this is MHO.

There are very few people with valid scientific credentials that disagree that climate change is human- caused. There is overwhelming concensus that it is. There are currently 150 leaders of the worlds nations taking part in a conference in Paris right now,  attempting to work on resolutions to this very problem.

Why is this the wrong lesson for them to be learning? Don't they have a right to avail themselves of the same laws and procedures that adults can use?

How do you kniw that each of these students aren't learning everything the can about climate change? How do you know that they aren't working in other ways too, to lessen the effects of climate change?

If the courts find their suit is without merit, it will be dismissed, or they'll lose. But what if they win? What if they not only win, but are able to force the government and the country to take the actions they already should have taken?

WHAT IF THEY'RE RIGHT?

Based on your websites, I see you as a learned and knowledgeable person, and I feel I can trust that what you say above is accurate. I’m simply suggesting that the youth are not mature, wise or learned enough to be “suing the government” regarding global warming. Again I ask: Will they sue businesses and the scientific community? What is the purpose of the suit?

Why is this the wrong lesson for them to be learning? Don't they have a right to avail themselves of the same laws and procedures that adults can use?

Do you think this is something that adults should do . . . sue the government regarding global warming? Shouldn’t we all be somewhere trying to workout solutions instead of playing the blame game? It is the act of suing that I see as a farce and an attention-getter.  I do not see suing the government as a wise and well thought-out, mature adult plan. I accept the seriousness of the problem of global warming. And I trust we have enough wisdom in this country to do something about it . . . to do as you say learned men are doing . . . working together to address and fix the problem. And this includes our government. And I suspect that there is much everyone can do as individuals to improve the atmosphere. I don’t claim to know how much of the problem is caused by human behavior, but I can see how our behavior has ruined much of the planet. The problem is not the issue as much as how they have been advised to deal with it. Teaching them that “suing” is the answer is the wrong lesson, IMHO.

How do you kniw that each of these students aren't learning everything the can about climate change? How do you know that they aren't working in other ways too, to lessen the effects of climate change?

I don’t know, but their ages suggest to me that they can only know so much and do so much, and “suing” is not the answer to the problem from my perspective. What do they hope to gain from the government? Money? A commitment? A legal decision from lawyers to force the government to do . . . what? What does winning look like in this case? To request a hearing makes more sense than suing! To sue is a farce with someone trying to make a name for themselves at the expense of our government and these young people! This practice will divide this country and destroy us as a nation.

If the courts find their suit is without merit, it will be dismissed, or they'll lose. But what if they win? What if they not only win, but are able to force the government and the country to take the actions they already should have taken?

The courts are already going too far; they are to interpret laws, not make them or force them; and suing the government is another outrageous act that feeds division in our nation, IMHO. Our government officials are not criminals who have broken the law and should not be treated as criminals by the courts of the United States and especially not on this issue. We just don’t see eye to eye on this one at all.

WHAT IF THEY'RE RIGHT?

If they are right about the issues, I believe they are still wrong to sue their government. Force is not the answer.
