Look UP!!!!!

Today I received an email with cartoons of cellphone usage – people with suntans but their arms, hands holding the cell phone is not tan; phones talking about their ancestry – our ancestors had buttons and our ancestors had tails; people having dinner together using their cell phones taking selfies and texting; someone drowning and calling for help and those on shore are taking video of the drowning and not trying to rescue the victim; not ringing the doorbell upon arriving-instead, calling to say “I'm outside the door.”; texting around the dinner table; updating your status immediately after the minister says “I now pronounce you man and wife.”; cuddling and texting; and in one the girlfriend asks if she can strap his cell phone to her forehead so that she could pretend that he was looking at her while she talked. I've been to restaurants and have watched the diners using their cell phones instead of engaging the person they were with in a conversation.

We once looked up to the stars - the sky is the limit - but now we are stooped and bent over looking downward.  No one is making eye contact. Are in-depth discussions a thing of the past and are we doomed to short sound bytes?

I'm amazed at the little ones.  They seem to be born hard-wired and knowing how to work cell phones and tablets or pads.  I know I enjoy using computers and gadgets but I love talking to people and having nice conversations.  What will the future be like?

About the Author
Angie (AGWILDERMAN)The joy of my life is my family - and the latest additions to my family are my grandsons. I'm an avid genealogist a "wanna be beader" and gardener. Always on the quest to learn about something, in online classes is where you will find me. At the present time, DNA is the hot topic. The past several years have been very hectic as I was regent a  DAR chapter. We are in the process of organizing a new chapter so busyness continues.  These positions have taken me far from the things that interest me most - genealogical research - except for my family but has introduced me to many new people and opportunities.
