Healthy Touch

Ethics, Values, Standards and Skillful Use of Touch with Injured Warriors and Families –Four (4) CEU’s by Gerald W. Vest, ACSW, LISW, LMT, Founder and Organization Team Leader, 15 Minute Stress-Out Program Date: Saturday, Oct. 24, 2015 Time: 1:00-5:00pm Place: Jerry’s Health Studio, 472 Van Patten, LC, NM 88005 (575-524-2379) **************************** This workshop will introduce Ethics--the Safe, Skillful Use of Healthy Touch to support relationships, healing, restoration and resilience for the family and for our Vets. Medically Identified as a "Best Practice' our Holistic Acupressure technique Relieves Stress and Lowers Blood Pressure Certification Workshop Cost: $30:00 Individuals-Couple(Vet and/or Vet Family)$15.00 $15.00(Instructional DVD) Program: The 15minuteStressOut process includes the following: 1.A focus on the breath throughout the experience by giver and receiver of the touch so that emotions are balanced and empathy is sustained; 2. A systematic process of touch is applied that include several techniques: feathering back, shoulders, and arms; squeezing arm muscles; stretching and spreading hands; gripping the wrists and fingers; and, 3. Pressure point acupressure is administered to selected points on the hands, shoulders, back, neck, and head. How is this Program different from massage interventions? This approach incorporates the coordination of the breath with givers and receivers. The givers follow the protocol or step-by-step procedures while applying skillful touch and the receivers maintain an awareness of their breath throughout the experience. Both giver and receiver are encouraged to reach for the perfect point of touch - between pleasure and pain. Do givers of the "15minuteStressOut Program need to be licensed to practice massage? Acupressure or pressure point manipulation is not included in the licensing requirements in most states. The other techniques such as feathering, stroking, laying-on-of-hands, and squeezing of muscles do not require professional training and are easily learned by following the instructions given in the 15MinuteStressOut. Recognizing this is short notice, just come and join us for a wonderful experience of exchanging this International Health Program that has served several thousand individuals, couples, groups and families throughout the World. Compassionate Listening by Thich Nhat

Gerald W. Vest I am working on my "compassionate listening" that is often very difficult in these hateful times with the Repubs working every day to destroy our President. 12 Apr 2008 @ 23:34 by jerryvest : This is a very good book on dealing with our Anger. April 10, 2008 "Compassionate Listening Relieves Suffering. When a person’s speech is full of anger, it is because he or she suffers deeply. Because he has so much suffering, he becomes full of bitterness. He is always ready to complain and blame others for his problems. This is why you find it very unpleasant to listen to him and try to avoid him. To understand and transform anger, we must learn the practice of compassionate listening and using loving speech. Listening with compassion can help the other person to suffer less. Yet, even if you have the best intentions, you cannot listen deeply unless you train yourself in the art of compassionate listening. If you can sit down quietly and listen compassionately to that person for one hour, you can relieve a lot of his suffering. Listen with only one purpose: to allow the other person to express himself and find relief from his suffering. Keep compassion alive during the whole time of listening. Listen with your whole being: eyes, ears, body, and your mind. If you know how to practice mindful breathing and can stay focused on the desire to help him find relief, then you will be able to sustain your compassion while listening." Thich Nhat Hanh, _Anger-Wisdom for Cooling the Flames_, pp. 3-4.

Background brings out Foreground

Develop and Administer Daily Care Plan--Holistic and Integrative Health Practices and Health Services by Gerald W. Vest, LISW, LMT Our “Background brings out our Foreground.” I don’t recall where I picked up this thought or quotation, but does make sense when we examine what is “behind us, in the background” and what we have in store for us in the “Foreground.” I discovered this concept of our ‘Past’ collecting itself as unfinished and incomplete life experiences with its storage of pain and suffering in our Backs. Everything is happening with us and to us every moment, asleep or awake, makes no difference. I recall reading a statistic about back pain with adults representing over 70% of our population. So it’s just not athletes beating their brains and bodies to oblivion, also those sitting at desks or working on assembly lines or in offices who are suffering as well. Our Service Members carry over 110#’s in their back pack with additional weapon(s) and ammo on top of a vertical vertebrae. Humans are not designed or created for heavy weight or we would be equipped with four appendices, much like elephants, camels and horses. It is for this reason that our SNM Alliance introduces deep tissue back massage with Michael Wick, LMT, followed with an acupuncture treatment, Acupuncture --Free Acupuncture for our Returning Vets and FamiliesCrossroads Acupuncture--crossroadsacu@gmail.com (just around the corner on Farmer’s Market), every Saturday morning or during the week. Offering this opportunity and experience is a treat beyond words. Visit our Website and learn about the many integrative and holistic health services that are available for recovery, restoration and resilience following this decade of wars. (Please let us know if these or other health services are offered as an alternative to the Killer Cocktails and the Psychic Tattoos (disorder labels) for life. Psychiatry, Western Psychology and Big Pharma are in the business to get everyone they visit with for a few minutes, on several chemical cocktails so that they can become dependent and addicted to them and their “Medicine.” I have worked with the military and behavioral health system for many years and what I observe is the creation of the “VA Shuffle” that many of you know has cost the lives our warriors and their families returning from the wars. Hey, wake up and smell the toxic behavior of our sick care system in America, often referred to as Professional Health Care (not)….seems there may be a relationship with our private prisons, private hospitals, private schools and other sick care systems coding, labeling and drugging everyone they can--our military, incarcerated youth and adults, students, elders, foster children, adolescents, toddlers, etc. Who is assuming responsibility for the pain, injury, suffering of these psychiatric protocols….drugging patients, children and elders until they slobber or drool. I recommend that my clients research every drug given them and examine the warning and side effects identified on the container. Add them all together and ask your local pharmacist and physician or psychologist if they would take them? Do they know what will happen to your body, mind, emotions, spirit and social relationships with a steady diet of these dangerous chemicals? Furthermore, investigate all other substances you intake throughout the day such as tobacco, alcohol, sugar. Don’t you also wonder why you are unmotivated, tired, lack inspiration, happiness, joy, creativity, love, compassion, and other virtues such as courage, dignity, self-respect and mindfulness. Not going to end on such a painful note, so let’s get our music instruments out and begin jamming. Enjoy some Yoga, dance, biking, swimming, walking, acupuncture, massage, lots of meditation to open us up to our natural and true health opportunities allowing our immune system, our breath, our exercise, our nutrition, our friendships, our family and our whole being get engaged and involved with intensive and extensive health services. http://www.jerryvestinjuredwarrior.com/id15.html Note: Special appreciation for the Intensive and Extensive Health Services provided our Injured Warriors and Families enrolled in our Ft. Bliss R & R Center designed by Dr. John Fortunato, Chief.

Big Pharma teach doctors about Meds

This is a Link in case you missed it with the article....such a disclosure and wonder if there will ever be a change in their drugging and labeling protocols....the codes are bad enough as they also stick with the psyche for life....just as well give them a tattoo across their foreheads as they are all treated as though they have a disease and illness that prevents recovery....allowing their patients to Lobotomize themselves is what recent long term research has uncovered. See my other logs for further disclosure of these dangerous drugs. Look around your neighborhood and you may discover their cabinets are filled with antidepressants, pain and sleep meds....many other pills from their friendly pharmacist. http://query.nytimes.com/search/sitesearch/#/daniel+carlat/

Healthy Touch vs Risk Management

The Risky Business Of Risk Management How risk management guidelines can increase risk and decrease clinical effectiveness By Ofer Zur, Ph.D. For another paper on risk management, click here. To cite this page: Zur, O. (2010). The Risky Business Of Risk Management: How risk management guidelines can increase risk and decrease clinical effectiveness. Retrieved month/day/year from http://www.zurinstitute.com/riskmanagement.html. This article is part of an online course on Risk Management. This is a great message for our Elders and others interested in transcending and transforming in a society that is indifferent and careless! The Great Space Dimension for Improving the Quality of our Lives Health & Relationships (abstract) by Tarthang Tulku The Great Space Dimension is available to us by “Letting things be.” Requires a total and balanced embrace: 1. Transcend common appearance 2. Appreciating Great Space is that appearance Since we initially engage clients and work with attitudes, contemplation of embracing, transcending and appreciating is the essence of this work. ********************* About our Mind by Tarthang Tulku from Time-Space-Knowledge Series The mind does not do – The mind Allows. The mind is a focus on Great Space, The mind is hard to find when we search for it, for how can we locate a “setting”? By relating to the mind as a doer and effector of change or improvement, we maintain or even tighten its narrow, restrictive focus. By Quietly opening the mind, the hidden element is allowed to present itself on its own. We can deflate even the idea that the ‘self’ has ever come out.

Learn to Give Skillful Touch

Gerald W. Vest - New Year Plans After the New Year sets in, I would like to introduce our Healthy, Nourishing and Skillful Touch Program while also including a session on releasing stress and anxiety with Foot, Hand and Face methods. Couples, practitioners and others looking for strengthening and improving essential relationships must include health tools for every system....starting with our hands and feet is exactly how we got around as we came out into our New World--our first Basic Human Need requirements of giving and receiving touch were open to us for a short period in our Life. I suspect that most illness and lack of recovery comes from the absence and lack of safe, skillful and nourishing Tough. Every one of our systems heals, restores and recovers while experiencing Mindful Touch. More so, however, prevent all the pain, suffering, vulnerability with healthy Touch. Opens up all of the blocked energies and energizes all of the systems with Chi--Vital Energy. The opposite of Sickness is NOT Health. Health as I recall from all of my great teachers is an Experience that is in dynamic and interactive, unified relationship with All that Is--All seeking Equilibrium, Balance and Harmony. In other words, We are All One, aware or not. Awaken Consciousness through these integrative and holistic health practices so we can join our Being (often referred to as human) , with Nature. El Perfecto See my recent log that goes into more detail about the Power of Touch united with the Vitality of our Breath producing a healing response far superior than any pill or antipsychotic drug will perform. Join our team and experience for yourself. Bring a friend, colleague and partner. Will keep you Posted on forthcoming activities and workshops. http://forums.delphiforums.com/stressout/messages

Go Beyond Boundaries...Fear the Known

Go Beyond Boundaries, Beyond the Beyond –This is Our Nature….notes by master Tulku on audio tape By Gerald W. Vest, ACSW, LISW, LMT Emeritus Professor and Organization Team Leader with Injured Warriors and Families Boundaries, we have created as a prison within and outside ourselves….we are a True Witness, The Experience is to Just Be….make choices of the present that bring joy to ourselves and others…Reality is a Notion….Us is still consciousness, the Field, nothing exists that was not an idea or concept, fact. Time, Space Poverty, War, Happiness is a Notion….the weakness behind the thought is not Being. Being is no beginning or ending….Being , Pure Being…source or notion creates reality….transcend one’s desires, our essential is pure space less, as source of space, we are beyond space and cause….freedom comes from the understanding all experience is by contact…fear, sorrow, wealth, poverty and their contradiction Go Beyond ….a Blind Man can’t know Light….experience freedom, acceptance, step into the unknown….fear the Known, rigid patterns of thought conditioning, prison of your own conditioning, letting go of the known and have confidence to step into the Unknown….known is conditioned. We need to free ourselves, fresh choices available for every event in our life. No longer have a past…experience, truth, goodness, beauty and economy…not shunned, just become Aware, unbounded, infinite and eternal--it’s our World and In it Nothing Goes Wrong….fear not immortality, we are not changed…we are pure Consciousness….lose fear of Death….unbounded eternity….remember our True Nature, of Eternity…. I am no Stranger in the World…I love this life and can never fear Death….. *Audio tape of a master introducing our True Nature presentation….with my notes. Gerald W. Serving and Welcome Home for Vets

Our Vets, Returning Warriors and Families deserve Health Care Our Country has been in Wars for the past 12 years and most of our returning vets experience, little to no respect or appreciation for their Service to US--lack compassion, understanding, empathy, and, most importantly, resources, meaningful work, intensive and extensive Integrative and Holistic 'Health' Services. Our Vets have been stressed, anxious and depressed with years of preparation, readiness, long deployments while experiencing Physical, Mental, Emotional, Spiritual and Family-Social Injuries to every system....what effects-affects one system, affects every other system, including the Family....come on, Psychiatry and Psychology have never cured anyone of the Disorders and have only created the VA Shuffle for their cocktails and a Psychic Tattoo or Shadow, for Life--sick care is Sick. Health=Whole Being in equilibrium, balance and harmony...all systems are interacting and relating completely. We are One Body-Mind-Spirit; however, our unfinished life business--our plans, expectations, dreams and aspirations are not completed to our satisfaction or judgment. Learning from these life experiences, no matter how tragic, is just as important as learning to walk and ride our bikes or horses or whatever feels good under your But and allows you to feel energy moving through the body with feelings of freedom and vitality. Free at Last!!!!:) Ahhhhhhh Visit our International Injured Warrior Program: http://jerryvestinjuredwarrior.com

Learning to Learn & Play with Children

This Integrative Health blog will focus on teaching, learning and playing with our children. The key, for me,  is maintaining an open, honest, loving and respectful relationship. Mindfulness is a way to be one with our children and grandchildren as their instincts are clearly tuned in to our interactions--verbally and non-verbally. In this blog I will introduce creative activities that we enjoy. While having fun, we are promoting health, learning and developing skills. Also, I will introduce art, music, dance, martial arts, writing, exercise, biking and other methods for maintaining high levels of consciousness. Mindfulness - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

We've all heard the adage - "All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy" -- makes Jill dull as well. Do visit the "Supporting Children to Learn through Play" by the Canadian Child Care Foundation.

This Blog and My HomePage allows me to share some of my favorite integrative practices, policies, methods and activities that I use in my professional practice , in my classes and for self-care. I am very enthusiastic about  including logs related to my professional and personal experiences while being mindful of our social work core values, practice methods/skills, knowledge of human development & behavior,  and of interactions and relationships of our natural and social environments.

Hope you enjoy ...

Jerry Vest, ACSW/LISW/LMT - Holistic Social Worker, Ft. Bliss Restoration & Resilience Center and Professor Emeritus - NMSU School of Social Work
