The global warming debate is nothing new,  but more folks are starting to wake up to the "El Nino" myth.  Yes, it is just exactly that.  El Nino is nothing more than a news story created by the media in order to sensationalize the news.  This also is nothing new.

Having serious doubts about the validity of the so-called "El Nino effect",  I did some research on my own.  I downloaded weather data from a 10 year period : 1981 through 1990.  I transposed these numerical values onto an analog graph for rapid & easy identification.  First, I plotted SST's ( sea surface temperatures ) for this time frame. Then I plotted mean average temps. for the contiguous 48 U.S. states.  Finally I plotted precipitation data for the same time frame and location - the 48 U.S.states.  When all three curves were transposed over one another the evidence AGAINST El Nino was overwhelming.

It's truly sad how most depend on the media for their source of information.

So we're supposed to believe you rather than qualified climate scientists? What are your qualifications? Where are your peer-reviewed studies?

This is how conspiracy theorists operate. Usually they end up proving "a little knowledge is a dangerous thing."

Weather and climate are extremely complex, and real meteorologists and climate scientists are learning new things every day. While the general media - newspapers, television, and radio - may not always get things right, there are a great many peer-reviewed studies exploring the intricacies of weather and climate. It's all a bit more complex than some lone guy spending a few hours plotting very limited data and coming to a conclusion that's at odds with real science.

I've been immersed in meteorology and atmospheric sciences since 1971.  I also once flew "hurricane hunter" trips in a P3 Orion.  I'm certainly no stranger to weather phenomena and this is particularly true regarding the tropics. "El Nino" is a FARCE.  It's as simple as that.  Temperate latitude jet stream patterns "call the shots" and not equatorial SST's.

You can either choose to buy into the collective ignorance of the media or check into it yourself.

I'll take the collective knowledge presented in peer-reviewed journals any day. It's not just "the media" saying El Nino exists. It's whole boatloads of competent, credentialed scientists who have told us about El Nino and how it affects weather around the world.

If you want to camp out with the conspiracy theorists, that's your choice.

Sorry to disappoint you, but this has nothing to do with any conspiracy.  Real Science DISPROVES El Nino.  The numbers never lie.  Not surprisingly, many very educated folks are starting to see the writing on the wall here and recognize El Nino for the BS it is.

Also, from what I've seen only 1 in 100 NWS employees have any real knowledge of weather.  Nowadays weather forecasting is all automated.  Satellite info along with data from surface stations in fed into a computer bank & processed. This is turn produces the computer generated "weather forecast models" which are of course based on precedent. These are then used by the NWS who also feeds these to the news media.

This basically eliminates any need for hands-on knowledge or training in forecasting.

In the future you may wish to address your input concerning topics in which you actually have some understanding.  Obviously weather sciences is not one of these.

Oh, you're one of those. Bless your little heart, Mr Knowitall. Sorry to have poked your little bubble.
