Update On Internet Tax Moratorium

Congress has voted 402-0 to extend the moratorium (that some people in my previous entry refuse to believe was needed). The update on Breitbart is here. This is not a permanent fix; it will expire again in seven years, but I would like to thank those of you who responded.

Internet to Become a Toll Road

…Because of lack of Concern and Inaction by Congress.

story.gifThe deadline for the Internet is 1 Nov; after that, it is open season by all levels of government on the Internet. After that, they can tax any and all uses. “State and local government officials have been eyeing such tax possibilities for years. There’s an endless list of ways officials can tax the Internet including the taxing of email, downloads and a whole host of other transactions, services and emerging tools yet to come.”

“You can join the fight to help defend the Internet from duplicative, discriminatory and duplicative taxes. Click here to take action with the Don’t Tax Our Web coalition, or you can do nothing and get taxed when you click after November 1, 2007.”

  • CNET discusses the issue HERE.
  • William F. Shughart II of the Christian Science Monitor discusses HERE.
  • The Inquirer even picked up the battle cry HERE.

It is time for all levels of government to quit viewing the public as an open wallet. If you agree, contact all your Representatives and get them to make the moratorium permanent. Countries in Europe pay less for Internet, have faster Internet, have better cell phones and a better wireless network than the US. Any attempt to tax the Internet will once again put the USA on a tier below the rest of the world. We invented it and the rest of the world takes advantage of it, but our government thinks we should bear the burden of the cost and finance their pet pork projects.

This is yet another attempt to limit your access to a free exchange of ideas and open information.

America Needs to Learn How to Play Poker

I don’t know how many people reading this play poker so please bear with me while I explain a few simple rules. Players are dealt a certain number of cards. The number of cards depends on the game. The players keep one or more cards hidden or (face down) from the other players. This is what allows players to “bluff”.

Now imagine one player who refuses to play his cards hidden and shows all his cards to the other players. Number one he can never bluff and number two the odds shift dramatically to the opposing players. Even if the player has a royal flush (the best hand) and wins no one else bet anything substantial so it was basically wasted.

This is what Congress is doing to any war effort. Be it the war on terror or the war in Iraq or Afghanistan. There is a big scandal in football today about a team stealing sideline signals and gaining an unfair advantage… America thanks to our “investigative” media and Congress need never worry about anyone stealing our signals.

All they need do is read the paper, listen to the news and watch CSPAN Congress as a group or individuals will “leak” any and all secrets for political advantage to themselves and to the detriment of this Country. The United Kingdom has the Official Secrets Act we have __ nothing except personal conscience and personal morals (I am not sure politicians know what these traits are).

I watch Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi insult our intelligence, this country, our servicemen and women and wonder how they sleep at night knowing the deaths they cause. I watch George W. Bush cry at a funeral of a soldier. Clearly he feels his burden but he continues doing what he believes is right and moral. Something is missing from the Democrat’s souls and that of the anti-war nut jobs.

I hear nutjobs like MarKOS scream that the Republicans don’t wear combat boots and then listen to them thank Gen Petraeus since their _____ (son, daughter, son-in-law) who is Iraq has told them what the surge meant to the people on the ground. As the Gen said even the threat of a surge caused a decrease in terrorist activity.

Let’s keep announcing to the world that we are a nation divided. Tell the terrorist and megalomaniacs that we don’t have the guts, the stamina or the spine as a country to fight. We want them to love us. We want to put flowers in their hair. We want to pay their way through life from birth to death. We want to control what they eat but we don’t want to offend their religion but they may feel free to offend us. Tell the world we are willing to bend over and take it cause We Love YOU! Kumbayah…Blah!!

Patrick Henry is turning over in his grave thinking that he was willing to sacrifice his life for liberty but so many in this day are willing to give up. Freedom cannot just be the privilege of a few; freedom must be shared and fostered with the whole world for as long as one country or person isn’t free then none of us really are.

The secret of happiness is freedom. The secret of freedom is courage.” -Thucydides
