A Model and His Artists

Caution: nudity within! For some years I have been dreaming about a special art gallery show with the title "A Model and His Artists." I have been a part-time (and for 2 years a full-time) life model since the fall of 1990, posing for college art classes, community art center groups, and individual artists. Occasionally I am costumed, but most of my posing is done nude. I am sharing here some photos of artworks I posed for, photos of myself posing, nude self-portraits outside the studio, and also some writing I have done about this peculiar art of removing one's clothing and holding still.

David and Me

David & Me
The cast hall at PAFA, the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, is a place where I always felt a sense of reverence.  The hall is lined with plaster casts of classical sculptures, culminating in the full-sized cast of Michaelangelo's David at the end, where the hall makes a dog-leg to the left.   When, in the Spring of 1996, I found myself posing for one of Rene Foulkes' classes in front of David, I just had to preserve the moment in this photo.  One of the women to my right (photo's left) was in the class; the other two were just visiting from other classes. Facing the camera in the stocking cap is Carla, who is mentioned in the "Different Perspectives" post.
