But it's more than just jobs. 1. We need to know that we are back on the right track. 2. That our public officials hold themselves accountable to us. 3. That the world our children inherit will be better than the one we leave behind (or at the very least no worse).
No member of any government on earth can promise all those things with a straight face, and truthfully we don't really expect them to deliver, and THAT's the problem. Because we should, and number 2 is the key.
We need public officials who will say what they mean and mean what they say. That isn't really that hard, is it? Well, maybe it is, because they seem to be so few and far between.
It's going to take six years not two to get us out of this mess? Fine. Then say so.
We can't really WIN over there? Okay. Tell us what we CAN expect for the cost of treasure and lives and let's DO IT.
It's going to cost a lot more to fix our roads than you have the stones to ask us for? Get over it. We KNOW what things cost, and we want roads we can actually drive on without owning an Abrams tank.
Sheesh. This isn't brain surgery.
