Time flies that is for certain.   I've been busy doing my own genealogy as well as some requests at the historical society.   I'm delighted that my two DAR supplemental applications for my patriot ancestors were approved.  Hugh Barnett and his son in law, Michel Dickson, are my newest ancestors. My original ancestor was Jacob Ammons.   Jacob Ammons served in the defense of Georgia.  He was from South Carolina.  I picked up an old document that I had not looked at in years and if I interpreted it correctly, then Jacob's wife was Elizabeth.  It makes sense too in light of other information that I have on the family. Jacob had two sons, Jacob and Jonathan. Jacob Sr. arrived in Wilkes Co., GA in 1794 from Fairfield Co., SC. Old Jacob died in 1831 in Lincoln Co., GA.

Hugh Barnett lived in Person Co., NC as did Michael Dickson. Michael was born in Virginia but moved to NC and eventually moved to Washington Co., GA and later in Hancock Co., GA.   I was devastated recently when I heard about the Hancock Co. courthouse fire.  I hoped to go there someday and do some research.  Sadly, that is now out of the question.

I spent three days in Washington DC last week when I attended the DAR 124th "Continental Congress" or annual meeting.   Four of us from our chapter attended.  We traveled by train to Union Station.  Opening night was Wednesday.  What fun.  Thursday I attended the Units Overseas luncheon.  There were 650 people in attendance at the luncheon.  Friday, the "Darlings" went to the Department of the Interior cafeteria for lunch. We also spent time in the wonderful genealogy library.  We wrapped up our doings on Saturday and returned home.   The weather was great except for Saturday but we did luck out and not get too wet.  The train was only able to go 40mph in places because of the heavy downpours.  We were an hour late arriving home.  The train is a great way to travel.
