1909 Smithsonian dig—WHY stopped?

So why was this dig stopped by none other than the Smithsonian Institution? It was extensive. What did they find that scared them? Would they have had to rewrite their false evolutionary 'history of Man?' As noted, the stuff was shipped to them in the initial stages. Why has nothing further been done?
