“It is not that power, in and of itself, is corrupting, but that power is magnetic to the corruptible.” --F. Herbert
I write a lot about the end of the world as we know it and what might happen afterwards. My imagination lives in future places where actions are simpler to comprehend, reasons are clearer, motives are more purely defined and evil is unmasked and can be confronted with power and conviction.
Today, in my country, there appear to be thinly-masked forces aligning to subvert the great Experiment of liberty and human freedom that has preserved us all for two centuries. Our Constitution was meticulously designed to safeguard the average person from the tyrant who would seek to control every aspect of human existence and now it is under direct attack by people who would rewrite it in their own images, based on their own delusional ideas and hubris.
The sovereign right to security, as well as life and liberty, was carefully penned into that document by men who knew too well the heavy hand of a despotic system of governance interested only the acquisition of wealth and power unto itself, by usury and force of arms when necessary. These men had pledged their lives, their fortunes, and their hopes on a desperate fight to shake off that grip and they had prevailed.
But they also understood that over time human nature would seek the lowest level once again and the old corruptible beast would smell the easy meat and move to re-take the top of the heap.
That is why the Second Amendment exists.
Without that short paragraph the others stand naked in the face of those users who would tell us all how to live our lives and would dictate what is best for each, according to the twisted logic and false compassion that make them who they are.
Since 2008 the masks have slipped and the booming voice from the idol is now shown to be the same screeching demagogue we have seen over and over again and should recognize easily by now. He has ushered in all of our darkest nights since the beginning of our time. His shadow has fallen over the mass graves in the frozen ground of the gulag, the reeking ovens of Nazi Europe, the mud of the Chinese countryside, the jungle death pits of Cambodia and every other abyss into which some men have dragged others simply because it was possible to do so.
Disguised as Beneficent he will tell you how he only desires to usher in the age of Utopia but that some pain will be felt, as in all birth processes. But this is not the pain of birth. It is the enduring agony of amputation; the searing, mind-stealing flash of cauterization, by a smiling butcher who cares only for his own aggrandizement. Control is the only goal.
I fear for the children. The world they would inherit is being stolen from them blatantly and without conscience.
