To Do Lists and Hurry Up and Wait...

Getting ready for Thanksgiving and Christmas is always daunting.  I'm making lists, lots of them.  Children will be coming home for Thanksgiving - beds to make and amenities to make everyone comfortable are on my list of things to get.  Not only are Chris and Chrissy coming but so are the pugs - Weezie and Biscuit.

Lukas is old enough this year to really be into the holidays.  Tyler is walking now.  Look out, here they come.  I asked Julie if it would be OK to commit Lukas to playing a shepherd in the Christmas pageant again this year at church.  He participated last year but on the day of the pageant he balked.  He's gotten some experience this past year marching in with his classmates and singing at church.

I hope to enlist the family in helping me decorate this year after Christmas.  My mother always had her Christmas decorating party the Friday or Saturday after Thanksgiving.  I'm going to try it here this year.  I would like to go the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts this weekend sometime too.  Just so many opportunities and so little time.

My grocery list is a mile long.  I'm going to try some different things this year.  I'm thinking about a ham and chicken instead of turkey; roast potatoes instead of sweet potatoes; and sweet potato pie.  I found a recipe for a cannoli cheese cake.  It sounds wonderful and not that difficult.

I've been hooked on genealogy too.  The bus trip to North Carolina didn't work out but Dottie and I are going to try to plan a trip to Raleigh in January.  Bette would like us to go to the Library of Virginia on one Thursday each month and do research.  Stuff on Thursdays can be juggled around but I do enjoy my Thursday mornings at Bible Study with my friends. I'll see how this works out. Ancestry.com made some changes to the DNA results and my list is ow about 170 pages shorter.  I contacted two people yesterday and both responded encouragingly. Perhaps the results will be better.  I was dismayed though to find that one cousin who was on the list is not on the list now and I know we are connected but it is probably eight or nine generations back.   I have had no luck with FTDNA or Gedmatch but I may not have a good understanding of how it works.

The class at Udacity (online) that I had signed up for on DNA is deep.  I covered two lessons but have not had a chance to follow up on it.  There are too many opportunities to procrastinate.

Have a great Thanksgiving.

About the Author
Angie (AGWILDERMAN)The joy of my life is my family - and the latest additions to my family are my grandsons. I'm an avid genealogist a "wanna be beader" and gardener. Always on the quest to learn about something, in online classes is where you will find me. At the present time, DNA is the hot topic. The past several years have been very hectic as I was regent a  DAR chapter. We are in the process of organizing a new chapter so busyness continues.  These positions have taken me far from the things that interest me most - genealogical research - except for my family but has introduced me to many new people and opportunities.
