A Genealogy Day

The genealogy exhibit opened today at the local museum.  The pedigree charts produced by Ancestry's publisher (which by the way is going to be retired in September) turned out beautifully.  The exhibit also included diaries, photos and items from various local families.  I also loaned a letter edged in black that my grandfather had received in 1911 from his family back home in Italy telling him about a death in the family.  There was also postcards, photographs, and the page of the 1903 manifest from Ellis Island.

At 11 am I did the presentation on getting started with your genealogy.  Although I had loaded my presentation on the laptop at the museum on Friday I added two slides last night.  Someone sent me an email with a funny way to distinguish between primary, secondary, and tertiary documentation and I thought it would be a great addition.

There were about 20 attendees at the presentation this morning.  Several people were regulars from the society but there were quite a number of new faces.  During the presentation I was able to put in a plug for the workshop "How to Organize Your Family Papers" and the round table discussion groups that will begin later in September. I am excited about getting back into genealogy.  I have so much work to do on my own families. One thing we hope to accomplish during these round table discussions is to encourage attendees to produce a four-generation book to give as gifts.

About the Author
Angie (AGWILDERMAN)The joy of my life is my family - and the latest additions to my family are my grandsons. I'm an avid genealogist a "wanna be beader" and gardener. Always on the quest to learn about something, in online classes is where you will find me. At the present time, DNA is the hot topic. The past several years have been very hectic as I was regent a  DAR chapter. We are in the process of organizing a new chapter so busyness continues.  These positions have taken me far from the things that interest me most - genealogical research - except for my family but has introduced me to many new people and opportunities.
